     The only major upkeep we do recommend is pointing. This is basically filling in the gaps of mortar that have eroded. This is only done every 25-35 years. It’s not necessary but it is highly recommended to ensure it won’t cause damage and keeps the home looking fresh.

     When it comes to stone materials we recommend flagstone. Flag stone comes in different colors and textures such as sandstone, slate and quartzite. This allows for a variety of design options which can range from a stone patio to a stone grill like the one above. Unlike artificial stone, flagstone is a lot more durable and low maintenance. When it comes to masonry we always recommend using actual stone materials since they have a longer lifespan and less hassle in the long run.

What Are The Drawbacks Of Flagstone?

     The main drawback of stone is you have to know what you’re doing. Stone masonry in general will always be more tedious than brick or stone. If you’re not skilled in masonry you can always higher a professional.

     Apart from that, stone tends to take a good bit of space because it is thick but it isn’t anything too crazy. It is worth considering when renovating an area of the home.
