The Versatility Of Brick Masonry
Brick masonry is an ancient construction and is still popular among people because of its aesthetic and strength. Brick work is so popular it tends to be sought after in the housing market and fetch a higher price tag than other exteriors, simply because there’s no comparison when it comes to its advantages.
With 100’s of brick designs and mortar colors, you can really mix and match to create what you desire. More often than not, people want the brick design to match the design of the home and that’s almost always achievable. While it won’t be exactly like the brick of the home, it will be pretty close.
Advantages of Brick Masonry
When it comes to brick, there really is no down side when everything is set. The only down side is having the skill to do it but you can always hire a skilled mason here.
Brick work is surprisingly environmentally friendly. Thankfully, people are starting to become more environmentally aware and deciding on the exterior of the home plays a role. Brick is a material that is available locally and is easily recycled. Due to that, it minimizes deforestation and reduces the carbon footprint for materials.
Along with reducing the tear down of trees, it is age proof. Brick homes tend to outlast any other exterior by a wide margin. A brick house that is built correctly can last 100 years with minimal maintenance. When it starts to look dull a pressure wash is recommended but not necessary.
The reason it has such a long “life-span” is because of so many advantages that come together. It controls the problem with pests such as termites and rodents. It doesn’t rot and the sun won’t affect it. It makes any home a modern day fortress and knowing it won’t be going anywhere for years to come gives any homeowner peace of mind.
The Upkeep
Masonry work requires very little maintenance which is something worth considering when picking a home exterior. Again, pressure washing it when it becomes dull is something we recommend but you can always give it a decent scrub with water if that seems excessive.
The only major maintenance happens every 25-35 years called pointing. It’s when the mortar that has been eroded needs to be refilled. Even then it’s not actually necessary but it’ll help to keep things looking fresh.
